About Keesha Davis
Growing up within a creative community of people–family and friends fueled in me a passion for being creative in a variety of ways. However, of all of the mediums I have worked in, I have worked in photography the longest and the most consistently. I’m not sure why that is, but I think it is because I am a right AND left brained person and with photography I get the chance to use both the technical and creative sides of my brain at the same time. I got my first Minolta in elementary school and played around with my parents’ Pentax ME Super throughout high school. While in high school, I was one of the yearbook photographers. Back then, we did our own developing in the lab, and that led to a a photo developer position at a local drug store. While in college at CU Boulder, I bought my own ME Super and a bunch of lenses. I was always trying to save up the money to buy film and processing. Black and white was my preferred film then–mainly because it was half the price of color film and the processing was less expensive too. Though I love film, I didn’t cringe when I made the switch to digital–the instant feedback provided by the digital file and the camera LCD screen put me on a sharper learning curve. It was at this time that my interest in photography exploded. The stimulation of being able to learn quickly appeals to me as I am not only one of those people that wants to master everything I do, but also I’m not the most patient person with myself. I often wonder why I don’t extend the same patience to myself that I do to my students–I think it is because at heart, I am a teacher and if I’m not continually improving myself, I see that I can’t be as helpful to others. I’ve had many cameras over the years–Minoltas, that Pentax ME Super, a few Sonys and an Olympus. Now I shoot with a Canon and try to use the fastest glass I can afford. When I moved to Seattle from Grand Junction, Colorado last year, I put my recently earned MBA, experience as a Professor of Mass Communications and Client Relations Director at an advertising agency to good use and started Simfotico, LLC. Simfotico is my commercial and portrait photography company mixed in with social media development and management. I also run Keesha Davis Photography, the Fine Art photography portion of my business. I plan to sustain the business at its current level while I pursue my PhD in Education at the University of Washington beginning this fall.
